A BOLTON nurse has received recognition by the secretary of state for health, Alan Milburn, at a glittering awards ceremony in London.
Jean Cummings, speciality manager of ophthalmology at the Royal Bolton Hospital, was awarded a commendation for surgical nursing.
She was recognised for an exceptional entry in the Surgical Nursing Awards, sponsored by an independent nursing agency.
Robert Murgatroyd, chief executive of the awards sponsor, Thornbury Nursing Services, said: "Jean's own entry was exceptional and we believe the recognition is well deserved.
"It is far too seldom that nurses are publicly acknowledged for their effort and commitment to the nursing profession and these awards are a mark of recognition as to the level of professionalism and exceptional care that the majority of nurses devote to their patients."
Mrs Cummings received the award from VIP guest of honour, Mr Milburn for introducing new systems at the eye unit at the town's hospital.
