SCHOOLCHILDREN from Bolton modelled a load of rubbish in a fashion show with a difference.
Pupils from 12 primary schools and two secondary schools took to the catwalk wearing nothing but rubbish as part of the fifth Annual Youth Environmental Challenge, held at Bolton Town Hall.
The 45 entrants designed and made their outfits out of household junk. Prizes of WH Smith vouchers were awarded to those with the best costumes.
Holy Infants and St Anthony's RC School pupil Patrick Gough, aged 10, won first prize for his creation -- "Spaceman". Second place went to Emma Smith of St Andrews RC School in Breightmet for her Bin-Bag-Ballerina costume.
Winner of the Year Eight secondary school group was Laura Makin of Sharples High School, for her Litter Queen outfit, with fellow pupil Karla Peacock's Mother Christmas coming second.
The aim of the project, which was organised by Bolton Council's Environment Team, was to promote environmental awareness among young people.
Event organiser, David Shuttleworth said: "We know it can be a boring topic for youngsters, so we try to dress it up a bit so they can enjoy it, then hopefully by the end of the day something will sink in."
