SUNDAY morning on the town hall square was quite busy as the three rides of the Clarion Club met for their appropriate journeys.

Conversation among various small groups was lively to say the least as if trying to say as much as possible before going their separate ways. Time for the off with Amy's band of beginners heading for Croston, the B ride out for a half day ride to Dunham while the A ride set off for Southport.

As the A ride reached Horwich a delay occurred due to a puncture, Amy's beginners sailed past with beaming faces, the tortoise and the hare springs to mind. A further emergency stop for the A ride at Adlington, for you know what, meant that despite travelling to Coppull on the same route as the beginners, we never saw them again.

A strong wind across Burscough Moss carried dark grey clouds that threatened rain but we were fortunate to escape a soaking, unlike the other two rides. After lunch at Southport we were afforded a luxury ride home by the assistance of a very strong wind, all the way back to Bolton, and again we missed the heavy rain that had obviously preceded us. Turned out a nice day after all.

It's bonfire weekend again for the members going over to Menston near Otley in Yorkshire. The hostel is fully booked for this popular event. Those riding on Saturday will meet at the Castle at the junction of Tonge Moor Road Crompton Way at 9am.

The B ride will meet at the town hall square Sunday at 9am, to ride to the Memorial Day service in commemoration of the Wellington Bomber crew who crashed on Rivington Moor.
