ADRIAN Harris of Radcliffe Athletic Club has once again proved himself to be an above average runner.
The Manchester Parks Grand Prix is a prestigious series of races, organised by Salford Harriers. This year's races have attracted many good runners and winning prizes is difficult. Radcliffe's over-45 runner has taken first place among the veterans over the five races, a well-earned reward for a series of consistently good times over the parkland courses.
Radcliffe's fell runners have been getting out to events now that the countryside is opening up again. A club team turned out to the British Fell and Mountain Running Championships at Llanberis, taking 59th place overall. Alec Steele did the first leg, putting in 50 minutes 56 seconds of lung-bursting effort. The next two legs were run in pairs. Arthur Warren and John Agg took over the mantle, then Brian Booth and Peter McNulty times at 76.27 and 80.22 over a different route. Mike Howard finished off the 4th leg, 59.04 securing 59th place for Radcliffe.
Seven Radcliffe runners went over to the Burnden 10k Challenge at Smithills on October 21. The club's ladies were third among the ladies' teams with Eileen Royle, second lady over 50, backed up by ladies' captain Linda McDonagh and Barbara Allen.
Results: 95. Tony McGlynn o/40 50.10; 98. Iain Harris o/50 50.20; 112. Colin McDonagh o/40 52.32; 129. Eileen Royle o/50 54.10; 135. Tony Meakin o/40 55.32; 142. Linda McDonagh o/40 57.12; 156. Barbara Allen 61.05.
