4 THE Lancashire FA Amateur Challenge Shield Round Three clash between Turton and Blackrod Town turned out to be the fiercely contested affair that everyone had predicted.

Four players were sent off, two from each side as Town, from the West Lancs Premier Division, ran out 3-1 winners at their Division One hosts.

Darren Shalliker, relishing the opportunity to play for Blackrod after being sidelined in recent weeks as the RAF cancelled all leave due to world events, scored two fine goals to put his side in the driving seat.

Andy Pendlebury responded for Turton with a beauty but the tie was killed off with Rob Findlow's 30 yard scorching free kick.

The home side's Adam En and Chris Lee of Blackrod were the first to see red, followed by Turton's Crowe and then the visitors' Shalliker for a second bookable offence.

In the two other outstanding Shield ties Lytham St Annes won 5-3 at Milnthorpe Corinthians and Wigan SMR beat Haslingden St Marys 2-1.
