A BOLTON bakery worker appeared in court charged with attempting to kill his wife by throwing petrol at her while she was holding a lighted cigarette.
Mark John Foley, 43, of the Old Lodge, Cemetery Lane, Burnley, spent nearly an hour in the dock at Burnley Magistrates Court.
He faces a charge that on Saturday he attempted to murder his wife of 19 years, Karen.
Christiana Buchanan, prosecuting, said it was alleged that Foley threw petrol at his wife in a bedroom at the family home while she was holding a lighted cigarette.
An application for bail by Rachel Hodgson, defending, was refused.
Foley, described as a multi skilled maintenance engineer working 12-hour night shifts at Warburton's Bakery, Bolton, was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on November 14.
