MATCH of the day in the Bolton Pioneer Sunday League was the game between the top two teams in the Premier Division, Astley Miners and Farnworth Vets.
Vets went into a 2-0 lead with goals from Raynor and Yates, before Fairhurst pulled one back for Miners just before half time from the penalty spot.
In the second half Barrow, and a second goal from Raynor, sealed the points for Vets, but Fairhurst scored his second goal to make the final score 4-2.
Ellesmere had to settle for a 2-2 draw after being in front twice, with goals from Whitley and Halliwell. Fish and Dyson replied for Gatehouse.
Hulton Lane had an excellent 6-0 away victory at King William.
Cattlemarket went 2-0 up against Spread Eagle, thanks to two goals from Whittaker. Nelson pulled one back for Spread, but further goals from Cooper and Marshall sealed a 4-1 victory for Cattlemarket.
Commercial keep in touch with the leaders with a 2-1 away victory over Masons Arms. Rusling and Hyde on target for Commercial, Stokes replied for Masons.
In Division One Rigby Taylor moved into second spot after hammering 14 goals in against Hitachi. Man of the Match for Rigbys was Gordon Irving with eight of his team's goals. Lomax (4), Gibbons and Fitton scored the rest. Kirby and McKay replied with Hitachi's goals.
Royal Hotel's title hopes took a setback after being held to a 1-1 draw with Sharples. Halliday on target for Sharples, Goodridge replied for Royal.
Queens had an excellent 5-0 away victory against Poacher. Crossman was on target with a hat-trick, Phillip and O'Rourke completed the scoring.
Faux Forest beat Railway by 7-4, on target for Faux was Forshaw, Cockran and Downey. Duncan, Dare, Lillis and Bingham replied for Railway.
G H Maughan lost a nine goal thriller against Green Boys. Dave Jones hit his second hat-trick in two weeks for Maughan but still ended up on the losing side by 5-4.
