A BOLTON woman was killed and her son injured when a car careered out of control on a sliproad leading to the M61 near Kearsley.

Rehana Ramzan, aged 30, of Edgemont Avenue, Daubhill, was pronounced dead at the Royal Bolton Hospital after the accident, which happened at 11.45pm last night.

Her seven-year-old son, Faizal Naseem -- who was in the back seat -- suffered a broken leg and shoulder and a male passenger, Shahid Sadiq, aged 28, of Sunning Hill Street, also Bolton, suffered minor cuts and bruises.

Mr Sadiq, a friend of Mrs Ramzan, was released from hospital earlier today but Faizal was still receiving treatment this afternoon.

A relative of the tragic mother, who lives on Bowness Road, Little Lever, said: "I have been at the hospital all night and simply can not take in the news.

"It is very hard to accept.

"Rehana was a very nice girl and treated everyone with love and kindness, a very lovely girl."

The victim moved up to Bolton with her mother Shamim many years ago and lived on Oxford Road, Little Lever, near her late grandparents. Her father died when she was two years old.

She was a pupil at Little Lever High School and worked at Great Universal Stores on the outskirts of Bolton town centre.

A police spokesman said Mrs Ramzan was driving a S-reg Vauxhall Vectra on the the M60 at junction 15, the link road to the northbound M61.

The vehicle then left the carriageway on the offside of the link road.

Firefighters from Whitefield and Salford were called to the scene and used cutting gear to release the occupants who were trapped in the wreckage

It is not known if any other vehicles were involved, but it is believed the crash took place during heavy rain.
