SAM Allardyce has postponed a scouting mission to Argentina because he could not find enough games to watch.

"For such a trip to be worthwhile you would want to see a game on Friday, two on Saturday and two on Sunday," the Wanderers' boss explained. "But the fixture list has changed because of internationals so we'll have to wait for another opportunity to come along."

Confirmation that Allardyce and his assistant, Phil Brown, were planning to fly to South America prompted speculation that Wanderers were on the trail of two £4 million-rated strikers - Diego Klimowicz, a 27-year-old who has scored seven goals in 11 appearances this season for the Lanus club and Martin Cardetti of River Plate, a 26-year-old hit-man who has scored nine in 12.

But Wanderers were hoping to see an array of potential transfer targets recommended by their network of scouts and agents.

"We were following up agent recommendations and videos of a number of players," the manager said. "We weren't going out there cold."
