VIEWS of Bolton women are being sought about plans to build a birth centre for women in Manchester.
A group of campaigning women, midwives and healthcare workers are carrying out a region wide survey about local needs.
The proposed birth centre will provide an alternative to hospital or home birth and aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for women to give birth with the support of skilled midwives.
Several birth centres operate successfully in other parts of the UK.
Campaigners say the centres do not replace the need for hospital-based maternity care but provide additional choice for women who are in good health and have no known medical or pregnancy-related problems.
The Manchester Birth Centres Group is co-ordinated by local midwife, Dot Parry.
She said: "We are keen to talk to more Bolton women, whe ther or not they have children, so we can get a really good understanding of local needs."
The Manchester Birth Centres Group was established a year ago to explore the opportunities for birth care provision in Greater Manchester.
The group has developed a short questionnaire which can be completed on paper, via email or over the telephone.
