I REFER to the letter from John Wilkinson (BEN Letters page, Tuesday, November 6).

This lad says his character has been judged on a can of beer.

Well, why not? As an under-age drinker, he shouldn't be drinking alcohol at all.

He shouldn't be drinking alcohol on the streets. If he had any character, he would be thinking about the influence he is having on the younger kids. (None).

To say he contributes to the wellbeing of the local community -- well, John, so do millions of other kids, but you don't see these millions sitting in the street drinking.

If John wants to help the local community, I suggest he tries helping the old people who are constantly abused, mugged, burgled and terrified, and then, perhaps, the local community would have something positive to say about him.
