AFTER reading the Bolton Evening News recently, everyone now knows that Bolton town centre is gearing up for another spectacular night for the big switch-on of the Christmas lights and many festivities.
Even now, the workmen from the Council have already installed more than a kilometre of cable, 4,500 bulbs and thousands of tiny lights. By switch-on day, teams of electricians and riggers will have been working for six weeks hanging lights in the town centre and surrounding streets, and that is only the start, with a festive line-up of special guests, personalities, pantomime characters, Bolton Wanderers Premiership team and many others, including a finale of a Firework Spectacular.
One wonders, has any thought been given to Farnworth? Going off the last few years at Christmas-time, Farnworth has looked decidedly neglected and forgotten by both the Council and local businesses. The town is, unfortunately, under the umbrella of Bolton, of which the council taxes and business rates are paid to Bolton Council.
Farnworth is represented by three elected and paid councillors, and an MP -- surely the town centre could be decorated with festive lights and a celebration switch-on, with some personalities for the people who live there? After all, Farnworth is the next largest town to Bolton and is entitled to better representation.
So, come on, Councillors Johnston, Spencer and Stones, and MP Brian Iddon, do what you were elected for before it's too late for Christmas in our town!
