REMEMBER Enid Atkinson from Leigh?

This remarkable woman is an ace-battler.

She first had to fight breast cancer then, when she turned to food for comfort and her weight ballooned, she lost over half her body weight to become a trim size 12.

Now, Enid, aged 41, has been made one of Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness magazine's Regional Slimmers of the Year.

And she could be in line for a national award early next year.

The famous slimming guru had nothing but praise for Enid's efforts.

"It is one of the most moving and inspirational stories I've read," she stated.

Enid was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 1997 and had to endure a mastectomy and gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

Turning to food to get her through the following months, her weight soared to 20st 7lb.

Depressed and with a limited lifestyle because of her size, Enid was advised by her GP to lose weight. She ended up in her local Rosemary Conley class, and the pounds started to drop off.

She reached under 10 stone 7lb by this summer and, as our picture shows, is delighted to be half the woman she was.
