FOUR members of Bolton Tri Club travelled up to the Lake District at the weekend to take part in the Kendal Duathlon.
The race consisted of a 2.5 mile run, followed by a 12 mile cycle and a further 2.5 mile run.
Although relatively short, the event difficulty was increased by the fact that the cycle route followed the A6 route from Kendal towards Shap summit, before doing a U-turn and returning.
The weather was not kind to the 120 entrants as it was a wet and windy day.
The race was dominated by several local international fell runners, who showed that they could also move rapidly on a bicycle over the fairly short course.
Rob Jebb of Borrowdale won the race in a new course record of 60 mins 18 secs.
Bolton's first finisher was Dr. Anton Krige, who sprinted past Dave Clamp in the last 10 yards to finish seventh in 65.20.
Anton is Bolton's most recent new member. He is a native South African who works as an anaesthetist and has now married and settled locally.
Dave Clamp fell back from fourth to eigth on the second run, but was first V40.
Tony Hesketh, fresh from racing cross country the previous day finished 22nd overall and first V50 in 71.22.
For the ladies, Sue Jones had another fine race to finish second in 72.20, less than a minute behind the winner.
An added bonus for Bolton was that this was the final race of the season in the North West Grand Prix.
The excellent performances of the above four ensured that Bolton won the Grand Prix to edge out local rivals, Manchester Tri Club to continue the sporting success that Bolton is enjoying recently at Manchester's expense.
