FOR the second time in three weeks a visit to the UniBond First Division's bottom club proved too big a hurdle for the Magpies to negotiate.

It would be hard to imagine a more ineffective performance as Chorley mustered just one shot on target in 90 minutes.

Struggling Albion, without four regulars, could hardly have expected such an easy ride. Their biggest problem was recovering from the disappointment of an early penalty miss.

Ian Leather's challenge looked innocuous but a penalty was awarded and Rob Dunderdale's shot from the spot was destined for the bottom corner until keeper Simon Marsh pulled off a superb save.

Dunderdale then lifted the ball over the bar from six yards, before Chorley had their best opportunity of the match.

Andy Mason burst clear only to drag his shot wide with just keeper Andy Carney to beat.

Ossett continued to make most of the running but, with ten minutes remaining, Chorley finally produced a shot on goal as Carney held Mills' drive at the second attempt.

Just when the Magpies seemed to have stolen a point, Albion snatched the winner with a minute to go.

Chorley substitute Graham Hicks' clearance was charged down by James O'Donnell and he picked out Ossett substitute Dave Watts, who coolly steered the ball inside the post.

This wretched display leaves Chorley looking uncomfortably over their shoulders at Ossett -- now only seven points behind them at the bottom.
