A TEAM of nurses who care for Bolton's sick children have been highly commended in a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Specialist nurses from the paediatric team based at the Royal Bolton Hospital received top praise in the Unison best practice awards. Liz Thornley, head of the team, travelled down to London this week for a glittering prize ceremony.
Working for the Community Healthcare Bolton NHS Trust, the team look after children who have left hospital but still need intense nursing.
They give out drugs and sometimes even feed children who have to be fed through a tube.
They were shortlisted for the children's community nursing award and were chosen from hundreds of entries nationwide.
Senior Nurse Business Manager, Kath Bailey, said: "We are obviously delighted by the team's success in these awards.
"This award is all credit to the nurses on the team who deliver a first class service and to the managers who have developed the team so effectively."
The team failed to scoop first prize but their efforts were highly commended.
