A CHILDREN In Need fund-raising idea, developed from a simple thought to the finished product in just 24 hours.

Twins, Helen and Linda Williamson of Globe Lane, Egerton, were asked by family friend and regular fund-raiser, Annie Lovett, to record a song in aid of the charity.

The ball started rolling on Thursday night, when musician Dave Lomax wrote words and music for the singing duo. Then, when they arrived home from Thornleigh Salesian College on Friday afternoon the pair were rushed off to Ionian Studios in Halliwell Road, Bolton to record the single.

The 16-year-olds hadn't seen the song before they arrived, but within three hours the final version had been successfully recorded, with dad, Stephen joining in on the tambourine.

Both twins are musical, having performed at christenings and weddings as well as in school productions, and hope for a future career in the industry.

Helen, the eldest twin by 10 minutes, said: "Although we hadn't seen the song before, it was a simple tune and we picked it up quickly. We've never been in proper recording studios before, so it was a strange experience -- it's harder when you know you are being recorded."

Linda said: "Only a Person is a ballad, but with a beat to it. It is a bit poppy, but also similar to Pulp music. It's based on the events going on in America, so it's very topical."

Copies of the single, 'Only a Person', are now being produced by Universal Studios and should be on sale from Wednesday.

The twins' mum, Anthea, said: "I'm amazed that it could all happen so fast -- literally 24 hours later and we have the CD in our hands. Everyone has been so good, doing everything for free and giving up their time for the cause, particularly Steve Southern who produced the record."

Annie puts the speed of the process down to her determination, she said: "When an idea comes into my head I have to act on it there and then. I thought it might be difficult to organise, but I'm a good beggar!"

She is now working on promoting the single around the area and on local radio stations.

"When it comes out we only have two days of sales and we want to raise £1,000."
