FOR the past 12 months or more all the gully grids in Markland Hill, from the Victoria Inn to Chorley New Road, have been completely blocked, not with a few leaves but many years of grit.
Consequently, when it rains, the water rushes down the hill often ripping up the road surface and flooding Chorley New Road.
On September 5, I wrote to Mr Jeff Layer at Bolton Council reporting the matter. I received a reply on September 18 from a Mr Regan, technical officer, to say an order had been placed to have the gullies cleaned and this would be completed within the next seven days.
Surprise, surprise -- it is now approaching eight weeks and still nothing has been done.
Perhaps in the future when building new roads and streets, all gullies and drains could be dispensed with, saving a vast amount of money, as the Council seem to think they are no longer needed.
