WHEN DB3 and Howcroft met at Smithills last Tuesday these two were the only teams in Division One with an unblemished record.
Delays on the motorway meant DB3 had to start without their two senior county players Rachel Taffe and Claudia Hennison. DB3 led at half time by four goals after some excellent defending by Ann Marie Collins - goal keeper for DB3 and Kirsten Anderton - goal defence.
Changes made at half time meant the attack for Howcroft were put under additional pressure restricting their scoring to only six goals.
Strong defending by Fiona Daniels and Sarah Barton for Howcroft held DB3 goals to a further 11, with Mandy Ibbison voted by DB3 as player of the match for her skillful play. Final score 24-15 to DB3.
Acdoco Angels head the table in Division Two with a huge lead of 11 points and a game in hand against their nearest rivals C.B.'s. They are the only unbeaten team in this section and look likely to take the trophy.
C.B.'s experience was used to advantage against young side Sharples. Leading by eight goals at half time due to strong defending by Angela Law - goal keeper for C.B.'s. Sharples raised their game during the second half and almost matched C.B.'s score with N. Holt defending well. Final score 27-18 to C.B.'s.
High Spirits remain the only unbeaten team in the Third Division. Gilnow Arms lead the table with 40 points, followed by Walkden on 37 points. Both of these teams are closely followed by High Spirits on 35 points with three games in hand.
Smithills continue to lead the table in Division Four, closely followed by S.J.S.C. Both teams have only one reported defeat.
