BOYS and girls at a Westhoughton school have recorded their own song and put it onto a CD for Children in Need.
Pupils at the Parochial CE primary hope to sell dozens of copies of "Reach Out" to boost funds for the charity.
The track was written by teacher Geoff Price, who is music co-ordinator at the school, many years ago.
When headteacher Peter Naylor heard the song he suggested it would be a good idea to record the song with pupils and sell the CD for charity.
He said: "I thought it would be the perfect sort of song for Children In Need and then we thought we'd ask the children if they wanted to sing it."
The whole school sings on parts of the track, with solos coming from Jennifer Owen, Natasha Tasker, Amy Burton and Terry Mather.
It was recorded at St Bartholomew's Parish Church on Mr Price's equipment and was then put onto the compact discs, which were donated by Leapfrog Computers, of Westhoughton.
As well as the title song, the CD also features a prayer and poems by the pupils at The Fairways school and two other tracks, "We Want to See Jesus Lifted High" and "Shine Jesus Shine".
The cover, featuring photographs of the soloists, Pudsey Bear and the lyrics to the song, was designed by Mr Naylor.
If you would like to buy a copy, which costs £2.50, with £2 going to Children In Need, call the school on 01942 812448. Reach Out
Picture yourself in a world full of children,
With nothing to fight for and nothing to fear.
Picture a hand reaching over the ocean,
A hand that will touch you and teach you to care.
All that we need is a little love to share.
Chorus
Reach out, reach out,
Reach out for the children.
Reach out your hand and show the way.
Reach out, reach out,
Reach out for the children.
The children are our hope for a better day.
Picture a tree, with love on the branches.
Picture the leaves falling onto the ground .
Watch as the child picks them out of the ashes,
And watches the wind as it blows them around.
Chorus
Born with no prejudice, born with no pride.
Born with no fear of life, no need to hide.
What happens to them as they go along their way?
It's up to us to show the way.
