Pennington finally land a Premier win IT has been a long time coming, 12 games in fact, but Mike Hardman and his Pennington side finally have a first Premier Division win of the season to celebrate.
The most pleasing aspect of the 2-0 home victory over Monton Amateurs for the team boss was that it was fully deserved.
Promise shown in a goalless first half began to be realised on the hour mark when the visitors' keeper allowed the ball to slip from his grasp and Carl Caffrey was on hand to poach the opener. Fifteen minutes later the best passing move of the game saw Andy Nellis break from midfield and slot past the keeper for the second. Goalkeeper Lee Wilkinson got Hardman's vote for the man of the match award as his sterling first half work was the foundation for what was to follow.
Elton Fold manager Guy Mallinson described his side's 3-1 away win at second in the table East Manchester as "superb". Playing at the hosts temporary home of Unibond side Droylesden's ground obviously suited Fold as they bounced back from a fifth minute deficit to level through John Armstrong on 12 minutes.
Two goals in two minutes early in the second half from Armstrong and Steve Smith with a brave diving header gave Mallinson's side a memorable victory with midfielder Stefan Shaw again winning the star performer vote.
A second half goal from Phil Hornby after a first period horror show earned Premier Division table-toppers Atherton Town a 1-1 draw at Dukinfield Town. Hornby, new signing Clinton McLoughlin and Leighton Packaging man of the match Mark Warburton all went close as Town played much better in the second forty five to remain unbeaten after ten games.
Breightmet United produced their best performance of the season to register a 4-3 home win over a strong Ashton Athletic side.
Yet again Phil Hinks was the star of the show with two first half goals and a shot from an acute angle for his hat-trick after Ashton had levelled at 2-2. Again the visitors hit back but two minutes from time Damien Harper fired in to kill the game off. Hindsford went down to a shock 3-2 home defeat to bottom three side Milton. "I've never seen so many chances go begging," fumed manager Peter Barry. "It was schoolboy stuff." Hindsford's goals came from Stuart Lomax and Matt Toone.
Reserve Division Two: Atherton Town (Tommy Stokes) 1 Wythenshawe 3, New Mills 1 Breightmet Utd 0, Elton Fold (Anthony Healey) 1 Mitchell Shackleton 2.
Division Three: Milton 0 Pennington 6, Failsworth Town 10 Hindsford 1, Rochdale SH 1 Leigh Ath 1.
