THE Open Cup Round One of the Bolton Sunday League produced shocks galore with three top division sides crashing out at the first hurdle.
A penalty shoot-out was required in the clash between Division One Anglers and Division Three Seven Stars after the scores finished level at 4-4 with the underdogs going through.
North West Paper, bottom of Division Two, are probably still celebrating after Ray Foy and Gareth Barlow goals earned a 2-1 victory at Gilnow Arms, Lee Montgomery replying.
Completing the trio of Division One shock exits were Halligans, who went down 7-3 at home to Third Division Doffcocker. Stewart Clark, Daniel Woods and Steve Saunders scored for the losers but leading the way for Doffcocker was Mick Smith with four, Damion Smith got two and Dean Taylor one.
Mick Hart and David Liversedge both scored twice for Tonge United in a 4-2 home win over Hare and Hounds, Tony Wallbank scoring both for the losers.
Another tie which finished all square needed a penalty shoot-out decider with Jolly Waggoner pipping FC Baroc.
The scoreline stood at 7-7 at the end of extra time with Tony Bonner (2), Stewart Kirkman (2), Tony Lawson, Andrew Swindells and Clint Aspinall scoring for Baroc and Keith Booth (3), Kev Warrington (2) and Nathan Peachey on the mark for Waggoner.
Griffin went through to Round Two after opponents Church Inn failed to show up.
In the one Division One game played, two goals from Paul Gibson and one from James Jackson saw Hare and Hounds, Breightmet, to a 3-2 home victory over Wellington.
