LIAM James helped himself to four goals as Bury & Radcliffe Juniors under 12s Inter-League won against Leigh & District Youth in the first round of The Albert Lyons Cup.
Bury & Radcliffe took the lead on five minutes, but Leigh responded with a well-taken goal three minutes later to level things up. Juniors regained the lead on 20 minutes with a fine effort, and increased it to 3-1 just before the break.
In the second half, Juniors ran away with it with further goals from Carl Lewis (2), Dean Hughes (2), Craig Dawson and Chris Mann giving them a convincing win.
Meanwhile Moorside Rangers Under 12s travelled to Horwich St Mary's B, and, in a good game, took all three points with goals from Lewis Morrison, Michael Lever and a 25-yard scorcher from Oliver Barnes. A great display in St Mary's goal by Mathew Hope kept them in the game with several fine saves, his best when he saved a penalty to stop Rangers running away with it.
Paul Marsden scored five but still finished on the losing team as Willow Park under 13s went down 6-8 at Radcliffe Juniors. Anthony Carter and Sean Gibson both hit a brace for Juniors to take the points in a brilliant game in difficult conditions.
Lee Bruce hit nine goals for Radcliffe Boro B under 14s as they progressed to the next round of the KO Cup at the expense of Dobbies B. While, in the same competition, Elton Fold's David Taylor hit seven as they won at Woodbank B to join Boro B in the draw for the next round.
In the under 16s KO Cup, nothing could separate Salford City and Westbury until extra time. With the score locked at 4-4 at full time, it looked like it was going to take penalties to find a winner in this close cup-tie. But, as both teams tired during extra time, gaps started to appear in both defences and the game finished 9-6 in City's favour.
In the under 16s Division One, Marauders A secured their first win of the season with a well fought out 3-2 win at Brandlesholme, coming from two goals down to secure the points.
