AT last we have been given the quotation from the Koran that defines the correct Muslim attitude to other religions.

On the Dimbleby TV programme (Sunday, November 11), one of the audience, a Muslim, quoted chapter and verse where it said that the followers of Moses, Abraham and Jesus, to name just the three that I heard, were as one with the followers of Islam. This is because there is only the one God. This must mean that any talk of a "Jihad" is due to a misinterpretation of the Koran for reasons best known to the ones claiming that it is the law.

In the past we have had many misinterpretations of the Bible for similar reasons -- self-aggrandisement of the clergy being the main one. The infamous Blasphemy Act was the cloak under which they operated. This is to be reintroduced under the guise of the Race Relations Act, and it should be resisted before the clergy rebuild their empires.

The statement that all religions worship the one God, while being comforting to the believers, raises some questions: Is he/she a God of confusion that different religious have been given such different "Messages" and "Commandments" ? Is it not more obvious that some have got it wrong? Probably all of them?

May I respectfully suggest that a conference be held to sort out a common set of rules, (Nicean Creed MK2?) which would be more appropriate than confrontation? As a born-again atheist, I have the strongest objection to being subjected to threats to my well-being by misguided people seeking a non-existent paradise.
