IT PROMISES to be a green Christmas for community groups in Deane with plans for new community house.

The Green House project will be a new base set up for residents to use with office space, drop-in facilities, training rooms and other services for their work.

And it is going green with an emphasis on saving the environment. It will turn the present social services offices at 2 Northwood Crescent into the new amenity, funded by the four-year Bolton Community Development Initiative, which has helped many voluntary organisations across the borough.

Executive member for housing, Councillor Noel Spencer, said: "There is a clear need for a base to support the work of the groups. We've been working with groups and organisations to develop plans for the Green House as a model of energy conservation and alternative power.

"It will give the community somewhere to meet, to run training courses and arrange other activities."

Work will start on the Green House in December.
