THE OLD Comrades of the Bolton Artillery are indeed grateful that Bolton continues to remember those who have died in conflict in 1914-18, and all wars and military engagements subsequently.
The spontaneous applause by spectators of units in the final march-past and salute of the Cenotaph is something which has been favourably commented upon by our members resident in other towns around the country.
Unfortunately the refurbishment of Nelson Square, in which stands the Bolton Artillery Memorial, was not completed, even though this had been promised as long ago as July. While the best was made of the situation by those participating, it nevertheless detracted from this important event.
It is a pity that planning did not anticipate all the delays by starting the work a month earlier.
We still appreciate that when the refurbishment is completed, it will have improved the setting tremendously, and so benefit future Remembrance Services.
