POLICE have renewed their appeal for information a week after 17-year-old prostitute Carly Bateman was found murdered in Bolton's red light district.

Two men have been arrested and released on police bail in connection with the murder of the teenager.

The first man, aged 44, was arrested on Thursday night and released yesterday pending further inquiries.

A second man was arrested late last night, but has now also been released without charge.

Carly Bateman was strangled and her naked body was dumped in an alleyway off Crawford Avenue, the Haulgh, in the early hours of Sunday, November 11.

The last confirmed sighting of the teenager was by a police officer who saw her walking through the town centre at about midnight on Saturday.

Murder squad detectives have appealed for anyone who saw Carly on Saturday night to speak to the police.

The teenager was working as a prostitute to feed her drug habit and police have also asked drug dealers and other vice girls who knew her to come forward.

As part of the inquiry, they have been checking CCTV footage and car registrations in the Haulgh area.

Punters were also urged to come forward voluntarily rather than wait until the police knocked on their doors.

They were reassured that they would be treated sensitively and in confidence.

Officers are keen to recover the clothes that Carly was wearing when she was killed.

On Saturday evening, she was seen in light coloured three quarter length pants, a grey and blue top with "Ellesse" written across the front and white Reebok trainers with pink inserts.

None of these items have yet been recovered.
