Sweet revenge at last
AIN'T revenge sweet!
Last time the Whites played Ipswich we were robbed by a certain referee. But let's not dwell on that. It is old news.
Let's concentrate on the present instead because it is a much happier proposition all together.
There were no bad decisions from the officials on Sunday, just a very good football match and a superb performance from Sam's lads.
Ipswich were simply outplayed and beaten fair and square. We were excellent, particularly in defence where Gudni Bergsson and Mike Whitlow look as energetic as two 20-year-olds.
Up front Michael Ricketts ran his heart out and even played the last half hour as a centre half, blocking shots and heading away corners.
Add to that his class finish and I think a certain Mr Eriksson will soon have to take heed of the Wanderers fans' chant: "Ricketts for England".
What was so impressive was that we never looked in any danger of getting anything other than the three points, throughout the game.
We controlled the game from start to finish and frustrated Ipswich so much that even their own fans turned on them.
The only time they did threaten, when the Spanish lad Counago hit a cracking shot, big Jussi was on hand to tip it onto the post and away to safety.
Injured or not, you still have to produce something special to beat our number one Finn.
The three points lift us even higher in the league and put us level on points with Chelsea.
It might sound silly to say but if we carry on like this we could even end up in Europe.
Everyone keeps comparing us to Ipswich last season. They made Europe so why can't we.
On the way into the ground we saw a sign saying: "Thursday night, Ipswich v Inter Milan, UEFA Cup". Wouldn't it be nice to see a poster like that outside the Reebok?
It is optimistic, sure, but on yesterday's evidence Sam's super Whites are well capable of achieving it.
