TWO of the LRC's most well known members were rewarded for their efforts recently by the Bury Sporting Council.
Derek Pritchard, the club's blind tandem 'stoker' was named as the "Bury Disabled Sportsman Of The Year" whilst Peter Graham was presented with the award for "Veteran Sportsman Of The Year".
Derek is well known to be a hard task master towards his tandem "captain" as his regular partner Mike Bland can testify, his unseen knowledge of most of the time trial courses in the region being second to none. Derek can predict his team's likely finishing time from time checks along the route.
Peter Graham, a past National Hill Climb Champion was instrumental in re-instating the LRC hill climb event, held on "The Rake" at Ramsbottom as a nationally recognised event. Peter still competes regularly in time trials and freely offers his comprehensive knowledge of time trialling and road racing to the younger members of the LRC.
LRC club runs will continue throughout the winter months with clubrunners normally meeting outside the Royal Oak pub on Tonge Moor Road at 9.30 on Sunday mornings. The ride on November 25th will be to Hebden Bridge with the cafe stop being either The Canal Cafe or The Corner Cafe. Anyone wishing to join the run should turn up on the day with a roadbike.
