Atherton Colls 4 Daisy Hill 0 ATHERTON Collieries marched into the last four of the Goldline Trophy with a comprehensive second half performance to overpower local rivals Daisy Hill.
Daisy Hill gave a good account of themselves in the first half but trailed at the break as a Ryan Cain goal separated the two sides. Lee Potter's shot tested the goalkeeper but he could only palm the ball into the path of Cain, who in turn slotted the ball home.
Cain's goal-poacher's instinct was even more apparent on the hour as he netted his second goal of the night. Once again, he latched on to the loose ball from close range after the goalkeeper had parried an earlier effort and the tie was effectively ended as a contest.
Colls rubbed salt into the Daisy Hill wounds late on, grabbing a third and fourth en route to the semi finals. Stuart Shephered appeared unmarked to head home the third at the back post and in a carbon copy, Lee Potter completed the scoring.
Atherton Colls now join Prestwich Heys and Charnock Richard in the semi-finals. The game between Hindsford and Atherton Town - postponed on two occasions - has yet to be re-arranged.
