CHORLEY MP Lindsay Hoyle has been on the road delivering meals to pensioners in Adlington to show his support for the Meals on Wheels scheme.
Mr Hoyle wanted to help boost the WRVS Full Circle campaign during National Meals on Wheels week between November 12-17.
The Women's Royal Voluntary Service's initiative was aimed at highlighting how Meals on Wheels tackles social isolation within the community by providing a lifeline to the outside world and checking that residents are safe and well.
Mr Hoyle, whose wife Catherine is a WRVS member, said: "I was delighted to join WRVS as part of the campaign and highlight the wonderful work of the charity and its volunteers.
"I was also pleased to have the opportunity to witness first hand the important role WRVS plays in caring for the community."
And he urged people in Chorley to show their support by becoming volunteers.
The campaign has had backing at the highest level, with Prime Minister Tony Blair describing it as "exactly the kind of activity that the government wants to encourage."
He added: "Older people frequently say they would like to live in their own homes for as long as possible. The work done by the WRVS enables many to do so.
He added: "The organisation really does have an enormous impact on the lives of many individuals."
WRVS is looking for more volunteers for the Chorley and Adlington areas.
