TYLDESLEY Rugby Club officially opened their new home on Saturday but could not find a win in front of the Mayor of Wigan, the Lancashire County RFU President and a large crowd as visitors Oldham won 29-16.
The visitors withstood some early pressure from the Tyldesley pack and took the lead with a try far out on the left, shortly afterwards a lack of concentration from the Tyldesley defensive line let them in again for another try. Tyldesley managed to get on the scoreboard when Eddie Wallbank landed a penalty but by half time the visitors lead looked good enough at 19-3.
However Tyldesley put together some fine pieces of play and leading tryscorer Gary Corbett added both his tenth and eleventh tries of the season. With both conversions missed Wallbank landed a text book drop goal to bring the score to 19-16. Oldham suddenly realised that they could lose their grip on the game and they worked hard to register another two scores in the dying minutes to deny Tyldesley a thrilling comeback.
Tyldesley Knights travelled to Oldham and came away with a well earned 24-19 victory to consolidate their third place in the league. Tyldesley Dragons showed their fire after being robbed last weekend by Leigh. A 27-17 win over a well drilled Oldham side. Scores came from Simon Mullineux (2), Andrew Oakden, Mark Gregory and Sean Tyrer. On Saturday all three teams meet Dukinfield.
Tyldesley Colts let themselves down with a below par performance against Altrincham Kersal going down 47-0.
