UNDERWATER search teams waded through the River Tonge in Bolton as part of the investigation into the murder of teenager Carly Bateman.
The three-hour operation was carried out as part of the search to find the 17-year-old's clothes.
The prostitute's naked body was found dumped in an alleyway off Crawford Avenue, the Haulgh. She had been strangled.
No items were found by the five-strong team, but the search will continue down the banks of the river and in other areas close to the scene of the crime.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "This search is just part of the investigation. It doesn't follow any particular tip-off from a member of the public."
Four searchers and one guide from the North-west Regional Police Underwater Search Unit walked down the River Tonge, from Tonge Bridge Way, at the junction of Bury New Road and Bradford Street, to where it meets the River Croal, a distance of around a mile.
On the night she was last seen, Saturday, November 10, Carly was wearing light coloured three quarter length pants, a grey and blue top with Ellesse written across the front and white Reebok trainers with pink inserts.
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 0161 856 5961.
