THIS was a defence orientated match. After defending their own line, Stephen Kenny intercepted to run the length of the field to score, with Tony Eaton converting.
From the re-start, Stephen Kenny kicked deep into the Latchford half, superbly chased by Richard Bergin and Kieran Jarrett, who tackled the Latchford player, forcing a mistake. From the scrum, the Lions moved the ball out to Jonathan Evans who forced his way over in the corner to score. Man of the Match: Stephen Kenny. Top Tackler: Tony Eaton. The Lions' Under 9s once again showed that they are one of the best teams in their age group by taking on and beating Orrell, an accomplished team in its own right. Tries were scored by Man of the Match, Alex Davidson (2) and Matthew Crow (3), converted by themselves, Simon Riley, Matthew Veal and Top Tackler, Chris Taylor. The Lions made an astonishing 100 tackles in a playing time of 30 minutes, with everybody contributing fully to the cause. Douglas Cunningham was awarded Golden Moment for spirited driving.

Leigh East U10s: 14
Westhoughton dominated the first 15 minutes and excellent teamwork placed Andrew Newton 10 metres from the Leigh tryline to enable him to drive over. Man of the Match Sam Dale converted. An excellent display of ball handling and support play resulted in Sam Dale going over for the Lions' second, converted by Jayden Sandford. Leigh replied with a good try in the first half. Nevertheless, the Lions went down to a contentious 12-14. Top Tackler: Ryan Brierley. Most Improved Player: Luke Lister.
Westhoughton Lions U8s 4
Ince Rose Bridge U8s 36
Ince were allowed to control this match and dominate in both attack and defence. Lion, Peter Wright was Man Of The Match and Top Tackler, scoring the only try and making 18 tackles. Osian Griffiths was awarded Golden Moment for an exceptional try saving tackle. Dominic Quinn was Most Improved Player. Jamie Cloran again managed to gain vital yards with his famous drives while Elaine Jones, Stephen Haydock and Thomas Richardson, all made an impact but were thwarted by a very strong Ince defensive line.
