A HORWICH secondary school has enjoyed its annual awards evening thanks to a lively speech from a former MP.
Staff, pupils, parents and governors at St Joseph's RC School and Sports College warmly welcomed Lord David Alton to their awards evening.
Senior pupils performed in a musical concert, which included songs from Godspell, before headteacher Leo Conley gave his speech praising the school's many notable achievements.
He spoke about the subject of citizenship, which will be introduced next year, and praised the school's community links.
Lord Alton presented the awards and also spoke about the wider implications of citizenship.
