A TEENAGER battling to beat leukaemia has started his third session of chemotherapy which will decide if he is to travel to America.
Daniel Berry, aged 17, who was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease three months ago, has had two previous sessions but both have been unsuccessful. Doctors said if a third session does not work, there will be little they can do.
His parents, Gary and Elaine Berry of Crosby Grove, Atherton, now face an agonising wait to see if the chemotherapy will work.
If it fails, going to Texas for experimental treatment could be Daniel's only hope.
Mrs Berry said: "The chemotherapy will last eight days and then we will have to wait a few weeks to see if it has worked. We are keeping our fingers crossed."
Meanwhile, Daniel's parents - who have written to his hero, Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson for help - have set up a fund for donations and are planning fund raising activities.
A consultant at Salford's Hope Hospital said that an initial deposit of £8,000 will be needed for Daniel to go to America. Added to this will be flight costs and treatment.
Mrs Berry said: "We are desperately trying to raise money and are appealing for donations and businesses to make a pledge."
If you can help to raise funds phone Mr and Mrs Berry on 01942 873744 or 07780 836151. Mrs Berry can be e-mailed at: elaine.berry@btinternet.com
Donations to the Daniel Berry Fund can be made at the Royal Bank Of Scotland, Market Street, Atherton.
