BOOTHSTOWN is a highly desirable place to live, according to a new report.

The area was described as "very stable, attractive and a highly desirable residential area" in a Salford Council report.

But Cllr Kerry Holt said the "highly desirable" tag creates problems because so many people want to move to the area.

The council is under pressure to develop land and facilities for less affluent local people are often underfunded.

The council report found the area had :

High economic activity rates and the lowest unemployment rates in the city

High levels of educational attainment and low levels of poor health and lone parent families

Overall low crime levels compared to the rest of Salford, although there is concern about car crime and burglary

Growing potential for tourism stimulated by theCommonwealth Games

But nearby motorways are a threat to air quality and traffic control.

To improve the area even more the council report called for tourism to be developed, improvements made to the environment, reductions in crime rates and the fear of crime, and improved facilities for young people.

Cllr Holt said problems have been created because the area was considered affluent. He said: "There are people who are not affluent who have retired on pensions. There are not the services for them as there are in other areas."

He also voiced his concerns about the large amount of traffic in the area and inadequate public transport.
