FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours tackling a suspicious blaze at a Bolton scrapyard early today - the second fire to hit the premises this week.
Around 100 cars were destroyed in a fire at Campbell's scrap yard in Waterloo Street, Bolton, on Monday evening. And a further 30 cars were destroyed early today.
Fire crews used cutting equipment to enter the scrap yard at 2am. The scrap cars were stacked four deep - yards from the two piles destroyed in Monday's blaze. Rubber tyres were also alight causing thick black smoke to pour out.
Fire chiefs today confirmed both fires are being treated as suspicious. No one from the scrap yard was available for comment. Firemen battled the blaze for five hours.
Sub Officer Mick Gannon said: "There were plenty of slips as firemen tried to reach the cars at the bottom of the pile and it was lucky that no one was injured."
