VICTIMS of car Crime are being offered the chance to buy security devices at a discount price.

For just £25, motorists will be able to purchase the Autolock 2000 steering wheel lock.

The bright yellow device is guaranteed for three years and is normally sold in the shops for between £60 and £70.

The scheme is being organised as part of Bolton Police's Christmas vehicle crime campaign. Officers will be contacting car crime victims to see if they want to take advantage of the offer.

The lock was voted the best security device by What Car? magazine because it was found to be easy to use, a visual deterrent, value for money and theft resistant.

Throughout Christmas it is estimated there will be 1,000 victims of vehicle crime in Bolton south division.

If the scheme is successful, it could be extended to include owners of older vehicle which are statistically more likely to be stolen. The initiatives has been funded by the Crime and Disorder Partnership.

Motorists are also being made aware that Bolton now has four secure car parks, the highest number for any town in the region.

Market Place, Crompton Place, Bow Street and Middlebrook have all been recognised for the improvements made to safety, security and lighting.

Police will be visiting car parks most at risk from thieves during peak times throughout the festive period.

Leaflets offering crime prevention advice will also be handed out to drivers.
