A SPECIAL tree-planting ceremony took place in Brinscall in memory of Graeme Barrow, who died of a heart attack shortly after completing this year's London Marathon.
Family and friends of Graeme joined other civic representatives, including the Mayor of Chorley, Coun Dennis Edgerley, at the ceremony at Brinscall Swimming Pool.
Graeme, 34, of Babylon Lane, Heath Charnock, was a duty manager with leisure services in Chorley and had worked at the pool.
The planting of the tree -- a red oak -- was the idea of former work colleague and friend Janet Lowe. Janet, of Heath Charnock, said: "I felt it was appropriate to have something new and positive to be able to go somewhere and reflect."
She explained that Graeme was brought up in Brinscall and that she felt it would be fitting for his family and friends to have a lasting tribute in his memory in the village.
Graeme ran in the April marathon with his brother-in-law Gerard Adams.
They were raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Graeme's mother Sheila Barrow, who had died of the disease only two months earlier.
