Re the article 'CSA drove me to suicide' (Chorley Citizen, November 15), I read about Mr Rostron with interest.
For three years my wife and I have run PALS (Preston & Leyland Support Group) for people with problems with CSA. We get a lot of people from the North West including Wigan.
Our group is supported by our local Liberal Democrat Party. The Lib Dems would abolish the CSA and return to the system of Family Courts.
Currently, the CSA let down parents with care (usually mothers) by taking the easy option of persecuting and hounding responsible absent parents (usually men) who are willing to pay, while failing to chase errant fathers who avoid paying maintenance.
The CSA also tend to concentrate on cases where the parent with care is on benefit and all the money they obtain from the absent parent goes straight into the Government Treasury department, and not to the child(ren).
It may be of interest to your readers to know our meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month in Leyland and our phone number is 01772 621705 (between 6-7pm Monday, Thursday or Friday).
Coun Ray Mellor, Liberal Democrat Party (Farrington), Leyland.
