LOCAL youngsters Alan McGuinness and Alex Cunliffe helped Greater Manchester Under 19s make it two wins out of two in the Northern Counties competition when they beat Lancashire 2-1 at Leyland.
McGuinness, who attends Holy Cross College, Bury, gave Greater Manchester an early first half lead but Lancashire started the second half much the brighter and their pressure paid off with an equaliser 10 minutes from time from Craig Newby (Preston College).
But former Bolton town team midfielder Alex Cunliffe had the last say firing home a last gasp penalty to give Greater Manchester maximum points with a 2-1 win.
Meanwhile, at inter school level, Sharples School were edged out of the Greater Manchester 'Champion School' competition going down 6-5 after extra time to Failsworth School (Oldham) in their quarter final tie.
Goals from Nicky Adams, Rob Hayes, a double from Chris Power and a last-gasp Craig McKee forced the game into extra time.
The game could have gone either way but Failsworth snatched victory with a goal in the second period of extra time.
