GLENN Hoddle has placed the Worthington Cup at the top end of his list of priorities this season.
After landing a home quarter-final tie against Wanderers, Spurs have been installed as the bookies' favourites to land the trophy they captured two years ago, and manager Hoddle is going all out to secure the UEFA Cup place which awaits the winners.
"We said at the start that the Worthington Cup was a high priority for us," said Hoddle.
"It was only in the second round tie at home to Torquay that I rested one or two players.
"I can understand how some clubs have other priorities. Those who are playing in Europe or fighting for Premiership survival might set it down on their agenda.
"But for us, this is five matches or so which can give you a European place, and if we are playing in the UEFA Cup next year and are doing well in it then nobody is going to be thinking about how we got into it."
Hoddle is aware that neither of the two games with Bolton will be easy.
"It is ironic we are playing Bolton on Monday night in the Premiership and then again 10 days later in the cup.
"They are proving to be a very difficult side to play against, especially when they are away from home."
"Whatever happens on Monday, the cup game will have a different atmosphere, and to beat them twice in two games in a short period of time is going to be a very difficult task."
