SATURDAY: NO goals but plenty to smile about as Wanderers keep a clean sheet at home to Jean Tigana's Fulham.

A year after being outclassed and outpassed by the Cottagers, the Reebok heroes show how far they have come in exctablishing a foothold in the Premiership. They are halfway to their survival target with 20 points from just 14 games.

MONDAY

SAM Allardyce hints of changes as he prepares to face Southampton in the Worthington Cup and challenges the fringe players who will come in to show him they deserve a place in the 1st Xl. Wanderers' chairman, Phil Gartside, voices his backing for the so-called "Phoenix League" but insists that any restructuring should be done with the welfare of lower division clubs in mind.

TUESDAY

IT'S a marathon. Allardyce makes nine changes to the side that drew with Fulham and is a happy man as Wanderers book their place in the quarter-finals of the Worthington Cup. But they make hard work of it - conceding an equaliser 10 minutes from the end of normal time after Dean Holdsworth had put them ahead from the penalty spot and leading again in extra-time through a terrific Michael Ricketts goal, only to concede a second. All's well that ends well, though, with Rod Wallace clinching a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win - with the first spot-kick of his professional career!

WEDNESDAY

WANDERERS complete the signing of Raith Rovers' 17-year-old midfielder, Derek Niven ... goals from Michael Eckersley and Lewis Hamlin earn the Youth team a 2-1 victory over Bradford City at the Reebok and a place in the fourth round of the AXA FA Youth Cup.

THURSDAY

THE draw for the quarter-finals of the Worthington Cup gives Wanderers an away tie at Spurs.

FRIDAY

WANDERERS are in talks with Spurs, the Football League and the television companies, trying to set a date for the Worthington Cup tie.
