A 69-YEAR-OLD man has undergone surgery after he was attacked by a dog.
The pensioner, who celebrates his 70th birthday tomorrow, was walking with his dog in Platt Lane, Hindley, just before 3pm yesterday.
His dog was attacked by a Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier which escaped from a nearby house and the man, who went to intervene, was knocked to the floor.
The dog bit him on his face and hand before neighbours rushed out to separate the dogs. He was taken to Wigan Infirmary for injuries to his right hand and the dog was later destroyed.
