IT is a matter of great concern to me and many of my constituents that Moors Murderer Ian Brady is about to publish a book just in time for Christmas entitled The Gates of Janus.

Apparently, the book will give readers an insight into the minds of serial killers including the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe.

I have already written to Home Secretary David Blunkett, calling on him to change prison regulations to stop convicted criminals writing books for profit. I am now asking decent booksellers throughout the North-west to boycott this book and give it no space on their shelves.

This whole exercise is simply an attempt by Brady to cash in on his notoriety. He or his family stand to make a great deal of money on relatively modest sales.

I believe that if Brady wants to give us the benefit of his advice he should reveal where he buried Keith Bennett on Saddleworth Moor.

Brady has committed heinous crimes, the horror of which words cannot begin to express, right here in the North-west. In this book he continues to show no remorse for his evil actions. For this reason and many others I call on booksellers across the North-west to boycott The Gates of Janus.
