A COUPLE of weeks ago, Mr George Brown of Farnworth wrote about the location of the Kearsley "toll bar", or "toll bridge" in relation to Longcauseway.
Mr Les Byron, of Bryngs Drive, Harwood, tells me that he has an old map which shows the position of Kearsley "toll gate" at the point where Bolton Road becomes Manchester Road, adjacent to the Moss Rose public house in Kearsley.
He writes: "The only other two toll-gates in the immediate area are one at the end of Buckley Lane at the Worsley Road/Longcauseway junction, and one on Stoneclough Road immediately after the railway bridge at the bottom of Stoneclough Brow.
"As my map is only 100 years old, maybe Mr Brown's information pre-dates mine, but I hope the above helps in some way."
I am sure it does, Mr Byron, and thanks for your help.
