A DECISION on controversial plans for a new supermarket and shops at Horwich has been delayed. Bolton's Planning Committee yesterday decided to defer voting on the scheme until councillors had visited the site off Austins Lane, at the rear of the Beehive Hotel. Planning officers had recommended approval of the plans, but local residents and Horwich Council are fighting the scheme.
BRADSHAW Chapel, one of Bolton's original hamlets, containing houses and buildings which date back to the 15th century, is to be made a conservation area.

WHEN is a lamb chop not a chop? Not, apparently, until it has been separated with a knife from its neighbours. Bound together, and sold as loin of lamb, chops should be sold at 2s 4d a lb. Separated into single chops, then may be sold at 2s 10d a lb.
At a lengthy hearing at Bolton Borough Court today, defendants sought to prove that 2s 4d was chargeable only for loin sold in the whole piece, and that any section of the piece of loin, although not separated into single chops, could be sold as chops at 2s 10d. Fines totalling £14 were imposed on Sylvia Teasdale and Ralph John Burtonwood, of St Helens-rd., Bolton, on seven charges of preparing to sell meat above the maximum price.

SIR,- May I request the attention of those who can stay the chiming of the Town Hall clock during the performance of our serial concerts. I believe there has been a persistent discourtesy to performers and audience alike up to the present season. I may also mention another betrayal of want of propriety. At Mr Halle's first concert this season, a score or more of dress reserve subscribers left the Hall before half-past nine. Such a show of this early "retiring disposition" tends to create, in vulgar minds even, the very converse to "mauvaise bonte". They might take a lesson from those just behind them who pay 700 per cent less admittance money, and exhibit in a different ratio an almost corresponding amount of good breeding. Yours respectfully, O.K.
