Bolton 2 Prescot 0: BOLTON pulled off a magnificent win against Prescot in the Senior Lancashire Cup - despite having a reserve second team out.

With the first team skipper taking on board the Arsenal/Man Utd Worthington Cup selection policy, he decided to rest his squad and allow the 2nd XI to represent the club. So is was effectively Bolton 2nd XI of NW Division 5 against Prescot 1st XI of NW Div 1.

A mismatch on paper but it was far from that in reality.

Though Bolton struggled initially to try and stem their opponents they soon found their rhythm as Yogen Patel and Chris Dean began to take control of the midfield. With Chris Goldsbrough in the Bolton goal in superb form, the home side began to make in-roads up front.

After going in scoreless at the break, Bolton went ahead thanks to a slick short corner routine which set up Richard Guest to fire in an unstoppable shot. As Prescot looked for the equaliser, Bolton found more space and they increased the lead when Friend poked the ball home. Bolton held on for a fantastic victory.

They now face Southport, from the Northern Counties Premier Division in the next round for a place in the quarter finals.
