I WAS fortunate enough to be one of the three judges to attend the Rotary -- Youth Speaks to the Nation 2001-2 competition held on November 29 at the Rotary Club of Westhoughton.
Two schools took part, St Joseph's RC High and Horwich and Westhoughton High. Each entered two teams, aged from 14 to 17, with three contestants per team.
It was a pleasure to listen to speeches well planned and performed to a very high standard. All who took part were a credit to their parents, teachers and schools.
A team from each school now goes forward to the next stage and the finals will be held at Bury Town Hall in March.
The schools also competed for the Jack Cowburn Memorial Trophy which was won by St Joseph's. Many thanks to the rotary club for organising such a memorable evening.
